Confederacy of Independent Communes:
conquered.
Anarcho-Syndicalist Communes loosely affiliated in a union for common interest.
government structure is the High Council, which is comprised of a representative from each Commune, and chaired by one among them who is elected by the representatives after each election cycle, and carries the title of President. the High Council rules on cases appealed from lower courts, and has no other authority than that. each individual Commune has it’s own sovereignty, makes it’s own laws and decides it’s own internal structure. the CIC has a constitution guaranteeing the right of each member Commune to not be attacked or threatened by any other member Commune.

Confederated Socialist Territory:
formerly the CIC; now a province of the Dajeet Republic.
upon annexation to the Dajeet Republic, the CIC became the CST and was reorganized into a representative democratic confederate province. their High Council would send a delegate to represent the territory as a whole in the Dajeet Republican Senate. however, the CST was still very unhappy with the annexation, and widespread rebellion was met by the Republic with swift military action. the CST is now under martial law, with the Military Junta acting as executive sovereign of the Territory via the Prince of the Republic. the highest commanding officer is constitutionally the Governor-General, and chairs the Junta. the Governor-General presides as representative of the Territory in the Senate. heavy sanctions are placed on the rebels.

Dajeet Federation:
representative democratic federalist republican hegemony.
the Dajeet Republic is a federation consisting of many different states deemed provinces. each state is allowed to decide and manage it’s own internal government structure, and send three representatives to the Senate. however, the Senate, which is the central federal governing body, determines most laws and policies, the economy, and currency, and defers only some minor autonomy to the municipal and local governments. each province is divided into districts which vote for which candidate will represent the province in the Senate, as well as vote for Prince of the Republic. however, gerrymandering in the process assures that ethnic Dajeet always maintain a political advantage. the Prince makes decisions of war and peace, acts as a figurehead with ceremonial powers, has a number of reserve powers, and appoints the Prime Minister (who is head of the Senate), and other members of the cabinet at his discretion, but all appointed cabinet members must be ratified by a special majority in the Senate. the cabinet and executive branch are answerable to the Prince, and the Prince is answerable to the Senate. the Senate however, is answerable to the Justices of the High Court, who are appointed by the Prince without needing to be ratified by the Senate. when the Senate passes a bill, the Prince may sign it into law or veto it. if it is vetoed, the Senate may attempt to push the bill through by Unanimity. the Prince may then sign the bill into law, or refer it to the High Court for review of its constitutionality. additionally, the Prince has sovereign rule over the federal district, which does not send a representative to the Senate.

Kingdom of Firmament:
magocratic hereditary monarchy. province of Dajeet Republic.
the Kingdom of Firmament is ruled by the Nightfall Dynasty. it’s rulers are all mages, and the current King is Twilight Nightfall, a sorcerer who has his soul heavily tainted by a demon of lust. his wife, Queen Aiy, is secretly a dragon, and his children are half-dragon warlocks. the law states that the King declares which of his/her children will become heir to the throne, regardless of age or gender. however, traditionally the oldest child or oldest son is selected. King Twilight originally wanted to choose his oldest child, his daughter Princess Eve, to be heir, but she has no desire to rule. so he instead chose his third child, the naive Prince Dawn. this angered Dawn’s older brother, Prince Star, who believed the inheritance to be his birthright. Star and Dawn waged a petty war against eachother, which was eventually stopped with the help of Eve, and Star was sentenced to life in prison without parole. however, hope remains for him to receive parole at a later date if his rehabilitation proves promising.

Kingdom of Skovis:
parliamentary hereditary monarchy. province of the Dajeet Republic.
the King is the oldest son born by the royal consort (typical the Queen) of the last King. the King performs a ceremonial role, greeting foreign heads of state, presiding over national events, and acting as commander-in-chief of the state’s military, however most of the state power is wielded by the Prime Minister, who heads the parliament. the King appoints the Prime Minister, but the appointment must be ratified by a simple majority in the parliament. the King may not relieve any member of the government from office, but may call for a vote of no-confidence. the Prime Minister signs into law or vetos bills passed by the Parliament. if a bill is vetoed, the Parliament may push it through by unanimity, in which case the bill becomes law regardless of the will of the Prime Minister. Parliament may impeach the King or any member of government with a special majority after calling a vote of no-confidence.

United Cantons of Southland:
confederate rural communes and republican city-states. province of Dajeet Republic.
a.k.a. the League of Southland, this union is comprised of rural communes and republican city-states with a shared identity of having majority populations of ethnic Halflings, and who agreed to treaties to band together and declare their independence from the Kingdom of Firmament. they later accepted a peaceful annexation into the Dajeet Republic, with special terms guaranteeing their local oversight over the districting process to help avoid gerrymandering. this has resulted in the Union remaining the most independent and free province in the Republic, and the only province to have a proportional representation in the Senate. each canton in the Union governs itself where the federal government does not hold jurisdiction. each canton is governed by a Mayor, and some of the cantons group up into baronies of two or three cantons governed by a Baron. these officials are elected either democratically or by guild councils, depending on local custom. some cantons have local legislative councils, and others have purely presidential governments.

Udori Empire:
unitarian theocratic empire.
Udor is a powerful nation with a strict monotheistic national religion around which it bases its laws and customs. all constituent nations of the empire must carry out the law according to the central government, and the central government may remove, replace, or appoint any municipal government as it sees fit. the Emperor wields supreme executive power, and appoints government officials at his own discretion, delegating governance in this way. the Emperor is elected by the Congress of Cardinals, but the vote must be unanimous and once elected the Emperor cannot be removed from the office unless he dies or abdicates. the Emperor is the Head of State, the Head of Government, and the Head of Church. the Congress of Cardinals serves as the legislative branch, but all laws must be ratified by the Emperor, and if he vetos a bill that decision is final. the judicial branch consists of a Council of Praetors, chaired by the Chancellor. the Council hears cases appealed from lower courts, including constitutional appeals. only the Council may overturn an imperial decision.

Pahana Preta Caliphate:
theocratic unitary republic.
the independent state of Pahana Preta is a theocratic republic ruled by the Khalif. the state religion is an animistic one, worshiping the spirits of all things. the majority ethnic population is Leonin, and the geographical location of the state is the summit of Mt. Preta. the Khalif is elected by shura, which is a form of community consultation guided by ranking clergy.

Principality of Iclaria:
independent feudal duchy. formerly a duchy of Skovis.
Iclaria is ruled by the Duke of Iclaria, and declared it’s independence when it refused to be annexed with the rest of Skovis into the Dajeet Republic. a small civil war was fought, and Iclaria won to the surprise of everyone. the Duke delegates feudal lords to rule as Barons, Princes, and Chiefs, and collects taxes and tributes from these lords to fund his government and maintain his rule. a limited parliament called the Lords Assembly functions as a legislative body which passes resolutions for review and consideration by the Duke for legislation. the representatives are elected from among the feudal lords democratically, but have no real power in government.

Minidhholm:
independent feudal city-state.
the magnificent elvish city of Minitdholm is sovereign over all Elves unless they renounce their citizenship or become exiled. though the city has no rule over other townships, the royal family is nevertheless ruler of a kingdom defined by it's citizens, wherever in the world they may be. Minithholm is ruled by the High Elf King Valthir Arvandilyomi and his wife, Queen Seren Arvandilyomi Harvagriblom, who are haughty and proud, both hailing from wealthy and powerful families who united the Elves under nigh-single rule in a great war. the King and Queen favour High Elves over Wood Elves and are cold and unwelcoming to non-elves. their are laws forbidding non-elves from owning property in Minidhholm, and the right of private owners to refuse service or patronage along racial lines has been approved in the royal court. the King and Queen are both conferred the powers to set, interpret, or change laws, and to determine guilt or innocence of defendants, and other ceremonial and legal powers. they also can appoint ministers of any office, and strip minister of their rank and title. so far, only High Elves have been appointed to any position of power by the Monarchy.

Ma’hana Principalities:
an archipelago of independent island princely-states.
the islands of Ma’hana are not a cohesive nation. various princes rule their own territories, and wars and treaties are both made frequently. scholars disagree on whether the native Ma’hani people can be considered to have any shared cultural heritage, but it is undeniable that they are racially similar to eachother due to relative isolation from anyone but eachother. a common practice among all Ma’hani princes is the sponsoring of privateers.

Dalrfort:
plutocratic city-state. single-district province of the Dajeet Federation.
the walled city of Dalrfort is a dwarven city-state ruled by an aristocracy of wealthy merchant princes in an organized cartel. the King is elected by the General Assembly, a legislative branch consisting of wealthy bankers, merchants, and guild masters elected by it's own members. the King appoints or dismisses Judges to sit on a Royal Court of 4 members, chaired by the Minister of The Assembly (who also chairs the General Assembly and is appointed by the King).
this is just an overview of the major nations and governments of my homebrew D&D setting, in brief. I will flesh out the details later, including sample constitutions for the nations.
